Houghton Park Estate

Councillor for Parkside, Houghton Regis Antonia Ryan has been listening to residents' concerns regarding a building development on the land to the east of Houghton Park Estate, Houghton Regis for the provision of up to 350 residential dwellings and associated works. Application No: CB/19/02053/OU. The main concerns have been the access point through Conquest. Councillor Ryan has been working with CBC and the developers to avoid using a residential area. An update of progress is below.

The Housing Service is responsible for a small section of land on Parkside Drive, (held in the Housing Revenue Account) close to the new road connecting to Junction 11A and Houghton Regis/Dunstable. Currently this land is overgrown green scrub and small bushes on the land. Behind this land, there will be a development of new homes by Gallagher Ltd. Gallagher Ltd have approached the Housing Service to facilitate an alternative solution for construction traffic and to maintain a safe access route.

This small section of land provides a good solution. We have agreed that Gallagher Homes will obtain planning, move relevant cables, construct, maintain and make good the site over a period of 4 years of the proposed lease. The land will then be returned to its current use with the temporary access road for construction removed. This approach will support the request of local residents in reducing site traffic in this part of Houghton Regis and deliver a scheme that is safer.

We just now need to wait to hear from lawyers to approve this lease.
