Exciting Update for Houghton Regis

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has today announced that Houghton Regis has been successful in its levelling up fund bid and will now get a new leisure and community well-being hub.

The provision of new indoor and outdoor leisure facilities including swimming as well as the new green cycle and walkway on the Kingsland site is excellent news. There will also be specialist spaces to meet the needs of vulnerable adults and those with learning and physical disabilities and space for community groups along with a crèche, a children’s play area and a cafe.

The levelling up from bid was put forward by Central Bedfordshire Council is for £19.9 million towards the £23.6 million project.

The project is also being designed to enable future expansion for additional health facilities. This new facility will complement the new Houstone secondary school due to open in September 2022.

I will meet with Central Bedfordshire Council and provide you with further details ASAP.
