Cllr Matt Brennan -
I want to say a massive thank you to the Safer Neighbourhood officers that have worked hard to keep Dunstable safe, unfortunately we were unable to convince the council to keep the service going. Once again, as is happening so much lately, politics took precedence over the people of Central Beds with the majority of councillors arguing about the Political position of PCC instead of talking about this service which would have existed even if the PCC didn’t. It was about intelligence sharing with the police and patrols to increase safety.
The officers of the council put together this list of expected impact of removing this service which is here:
- There will be less visible patrols across CBC, this could cause an increase in residents
perception of safety.
- Reduction in joint working with Bedfordshire Police and other agencies e.g. weapons sweeps, cuckooing and drugs.
• Reduction in intelligence in relation to crime and anti social behaviour.
- Reduction in back up resource for Civil Enforcement Officers.
- Reduction in resource to support other services who require eyes on the ground to assist in delivery of other services.
This is what the other councillors voted for last night so that they could complain about the Labour PCC.
