PRESS RELEASE - 20:00 25/05/2023

"The Labour group look forward to working constructively across the partisan divide, with those who recognise the needs of the people who elected us. We are particularly keen to work with others to deliver on addressing the gap between the present public services provided and public expectation, especially on protecting and improving Special Educational Needs and Disability provision and ensuring ample supply of infrastructure for new and old communities. With the Conservatives out of power for the first time in Central Bedfordshire’s history, carrying on with business as usual is no longer a valid option. Labour will always put the needs of Central Bedfordshire’s residents first and foremost.

Our group of five councillors is the most ever elected to Central Bedfordshire Council. Cllr Adam Zerny highlighted Labours new relevance when speaking to the need to work together, commending Labour Leader Matt Brennan for his work to save Creasey Park Football Stadium from privatisation. Our strong and united Labour group will spend the next four years carefully scrutinising the new administration’s decisions and actions, providing robust challenge where it is needed. We congratulate Cllr Adam Zerny on his election as Council Leader. We will support his administration when they get things right, but won't hesitate to challenge them when they get things wrong.

The challenges we face in Central Bedfordshire are many. We who have engaged with the electors during the election campaign know well, from talking with our residents, how hard the cost-of-living crisis is hitting the communities we represent. We know that Central Bedfordshire Council can and should be part of the solution, and Labour will never stop pressing for that.”
